Highly Cited Research Directory — 2000-2008
About the list:
This list is a compilation of highly cited researchers identified by Thomson Reuters between 2000 and 2008. Previously published at ISIHighlyCited.com, it was included in a project from Thomson Reuters that identified and honored researchers whose collected publications received the highest number of citations across the previous three decades.
Being acknowledged by Thomson Reuters as a Highly Cited Researcher meant that an individual was among the 250 most-cited researchers in a defined discipline within a specific time-period. Citation is a direct measure of influence on the literature of a subject, and it is also a strong indicator of scientific contribution, since it is derived from a pattern of interaction among millions of published articles. When one researcher cites another’s work, he/she is acknowledging the relevance of that work to the current study. The interaction is both highly specific, and highly informed; it is a statement by an author of the scholarly kinship of two works.
Thomson Reuters is committed to ongoing efforts to identify and acknowledge researchers whose outstanding publications contribute some of the most important and rich sources of citation navigation in Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge™. As we evolve our services for researchers with new and updated methodologies, continued insight into highly cited research is available via Essential Science Indicators — updated bimonthly — and via ResearcherID — a global, multi-disciplinary scholarly research community where individual researchers can manage and showcase their research output impact
